Roulette Strategy

Can someone beat roulette? Is it possible? There is no player who hasn’t made that question to himself at least one time. In this article, we are going to give you a clear answer so you will stop wondering for the rest of your life. Keep in mind that we are not going to express our personal opinion but we will focus on mathematical facts which no one can question.

Since roulette was invented, back in the 18th century, many intelligent people tried to find ways to beat roulette. By “beat” we are referring to a roulette strategy or system that mathematically guarantees a standard profit in the long-term. Before we start analyzing the most popular systems and their efficiency, it is crucial to acknowledge what the smartest man in the world, at that time, answered when he was asked the above question:

“The only way to beat roulette is to steal money when the croupier isn’t looking.” – Albert Einstein

Are there any winning roulette strategies?

The appealing and misleading thing about these systems is that since your bets after losing are bigger, you don’t have to win so many of them to come back. But what happens if you face a disastrous series of losses that empties your pockets? Let us explain what we mean:

Martingale System

Hands down, the most famous negative progression system. Basically, you double your initial bet after a loss. When you win, you have a profit equal to your initial bet and then you start again. Simple as that. The simplicity of this system and how easy it seems to be a winning strategy, are the reasons it has become so popular all over the world.

However, the truth is completely different. This is one of the most dangerous systems ever. There are two main reasons for this fact:

  • After a losing streak, you are committed to risk a huge amount of money in order to earn your first bet. For example, after 6 losses in a row, if your initial bet was $10, you have to bet $740! And if you lose again $1480! Just to earn $10. This system is a joke because it’s so easy to have 6 or 7 losses in a row.
  • This system would work perfectly under 2 specific conditions: You have an unlimited bankroll and you play in a casino with no betting limits. And even if you are filthy rich, casinos are not stupid. They are protected by setting betting limits so that no progression system would ever be efficient.

Our opinion: The Martingale system is the best way to destroy not only your bankroll but also your soul as a human being!

Paroli System

This system is also known as “Reverse Martingale”. The concept behind this system is to increase the chances of growing your bankroll by taking advantage of your possible winning streaks. It is very simple. After deciding the amount of your unit, you double your bet when you win until you get 3 wins in a row.

If your initial stake is $10, your next bet should be $20. Furthermore, if you win for the second time in a row, you should double it again. So, if you’ve won $20, you’ll then be required to bet $40. After 3 consecutive wins, you should stop doubling your bets. Go back to wagering the amount you decided would be your base stake.

Our opinion: The paroli system can only be profitable in the short term and under the condition that you have some winning streaks. Otherwise, it’s very possible to lose your entire bankroll pretty quickly.

D’Alembert System

Another popular negative progression system. This system is also very simple. Basically, you increase your bet by one unit after a loss. If you win, you decrease your stake by one unit. This system has a quite similar concept to the Martingale system. Both of them belong to the negative progression category. The progression in this betting strategy is much smoother. You are dictated to raise your bets only by one unit, and you don’t have to double up your bets until you win. That’s why this system is less risky compared to the Martingale system.

Our opinion: According to Mr. D’Alembert, after a loss, you are more likely to win. Personally, We don’t agree at all. We believe that cards have no memory. Even if this system seems very attractive to many players, I’d only recommend this betting system for those who aim for a short term profit.

Labouchere System

Also known as the cancelation system, the Labouchere system belongs to the negative progression category. What’s most interesting about this particular betting system is the fact that it’s much more flexible than other betting strategies. Using this system, you don’t have to follow a specific sequence, players who apply the Labouchere system are free to come up with their own sequence based on the amount of money they aim to make when using this system. The bad thing about this system is that it is very complicated, especially to those who haven’t applied a similar sequence before. Let me explain this:

The basic thing you will need to do with the Labouchere system is to think of a sequence of numbers that will represent the total amount you are willing to spend. Technically, you can choose any sequence you want. Let’s assume that your goal is $200. This is how you would divide the sum into several bets and put them into a list which would look like this:

$15 – $20 – $20 – $30 – $40 – $30 – $20 – $15 – $10

According to the Labouchere System, your first bet would combine the first number of your list added together with the last number in your list. In this case it would be $15 + $10 = $25. If you win, you take number 1 and number 9 out of your sequence and go on to the next, keeping the same pattern. So, your next bet would continue in the same way where you would take number 2 and number 8 from your list (the first and last remaining numbers) and combine them to make your second bet. In this case it would be $20 + $15 = $35.

If you would lose a bet as you’re moving through your sequence, you would then add that losing number to the end of your sequence and continue as before. You keep going like that until you have crossed out all the numbers on your list and finish the sequence.

Our opinion: It’s a flexible system that allows you to set the amount you want to risk and the amount you want to win. However, it’s a complicated system that a possible losing streak, like in all progressive systems, will destroy you.

Fibonacci System

This system is basically a sequence, and the idea behind it is that you keep wagering larger and larger amounts despite a loss, and you will eventually win back your last two losing bets and not even the total sum of your losses. Every time you lose, you have to increase your bet as the sequence dictates. This will keep happening for every loss you experience.

In case you win one of the bets, you have to decrease your bet by going two numbers down. You will have to repeat that every time you win, no matter where you are in the sequence.

Our opinion: The Fibonacci System is really old. And some things are better off staying in the past where they belong.

Oscar’s Grind System

This system divides playing into sessions and units. Each session starts with a bet of one unit and ends when the player has a profit of one unit. We will give you an example to make it easier for you to understand:

Let’s assume that your unit is $10. All of your sessions will have to start with a $10 bet. At the time you have a $10 profit, the session will end. In the spin that you won your first bet of $10, you have achieved the $10 profit. So you start another new session.

In case you lose your first $10 bet, you continue to bet $10 until you win. When you land a win, the bet size doubles to $20. It remains $20 until either: you lose again, at which point it increases by another unit to $30, or betting a lesser amount could potentially result in a $10 profit.

Our opinion: If you have an unlimited bankroll and unlimited time, every session will give you a profit. If you don’t play under these conditions, you will end up losing your entire bankroll in the long run. We believe this makes it clear why this is not a system you should try no matter what.

Conclusion

All the above systems are only designed to offer small profits in the short term. Most important? All of them suffer from the same fate: When you face a negative variance, a losing streak, in other words, you end up betting large amounts to earn $5 or $10, risking your entire bankroll for basically no reason. Whether you’re an amateur or an experienced player, you already know how easy it is to face a negative variance during the game. The best strategy for roulette is proven to be the repetition of the same wager. Keep reading this article where we will give you some really useful tips to increase your chances of winning.

How to win at roulette

Let’ see now some very useful tips that will certainly increase your chances of winning. However, never forget that roulette is a game of pure luck, and your odds will never exceed 48,5% ending up a winner after a session.

  • Learn the rules

There are different roulette variations as you already know. You need to dig into the specific rules of the table you’re playing at and choose wisely what’s more favorable to you.

  • Bankroll management

That’s downright crucial and what distinguishes good players from mere gamblers. We will provide some crucial bankroll management tips which will give you more chances to win at roulette in the long term. These tips are mainly for 50-50 types of bets.

👉 Divide your bankroll into units. If you have $1,000 and you want to bet $10 each time, you have 100 units.

👉 Never play if you don’t have at least 50 units. The ideal number of units is 100.

👉 Never raise your bet when you are losing. That’s the most common mistake.

👉 Raise your bet when you are winning to 1,5 units. If you reach even, return to 1 unit.

👉 Do not spend your winnings. Add them to your bankroll and get closer to your goal.

👉 Never play more than 3 hours. Fatigue and saturation will affect your mind.

👉 When you reach your goal, stop playing. Go get a cocktail! You just beat the casino!

  • Never play American roulette

On the American roulette wheel, there is another added segment with a double zero 00, and instead of having 1/37 odds of winning a number, you have 1/38. However,  payouts remain the same, meaning that the return to the player is 35:1! This results in a huge house edge in the American roulette of 5.26%!

  • Don’t trust progressive systems

Even if it seems attractive at first glance, a progressive betting system will literally destroy you in the long term. We are saying this from personal experience. And that applies to all progressive systems. We will explain why. For some reason we haven’t yet understood, these systems imply that if you lose several times in a row, the next time you have more chances of winning. That’s really stupid. Every spin you play is not connected in any way with the previous spins whatsoever! You will still have 49,5% max of winning. So, if you don’t want to know what it feels like to bet $740 to win $10 in a 49,5% ( Martingale system after 6 losses in a row) please listen to me. Been there, done that.

  • Play for fun

Last but not least, always remember that roulette is a game of luck. And when you play a game,  your main goal is to have fun. So, play responsibly dude. Don’t bet money you can’t afford. It isn’t worth it, believe me. The best50casino wishes you have fun and good luck!
