New “players” are entering the online casino business in Switzerland since the Money Gaming Act came into effect. Two more land-based casinos, Grand Casino Kursaal Bern AG and Casino Interlaken AG, got approved by the Swiss government for offering online services. As soon as the Federal Gaming Board (ESBK) gives the “green light” to the operators their online casino product can go “live”.
Casino Interlaken has already made all the necessary moves and it approaches its “go-live” date soon. The casino has signed a partnership with StarVegas, a brand that is operated by Novomatic’s Maltese subsidiary, Beatya Online Entertainment. On the other hand, the Swiss capital’s brand that is run by Casino Austria International, hasn’t revealed any details of their future plan, but word is that they will cooperate with the powerhouse of the industry, Betway.
The Swiss regulator, ESBK has already approved the online launches of four other casino brands during the summer, so Switzerland will have six operators up and running by the end of the year. The number could significantly grow as the 21 land-based casinos having their interests within Switzerland’s jurisdiction, have the right to apply for an online casino license.
Until now, it seems that the casinos interested in expanding online are only from the German-speaking regions. So far, not a single one provider from the French-speaking regions has declared interest but it’s almost certain they will in the near future.
The Money Gaming Act that was voted this year changed the landscape in Switzerland as from further on online operators will have to claim physical presence in the country. This seemed to discourage some brands which opted out, however, there are still plenty of decent brands that continue to offer their services to CH players. And we’ve included them all in this comprehensive list of Swiss-accepting brands.
